Jago

Art

A series of photographs captured during Jago's creative process, spanning different moments and locations throughout extensive working sessions. An opportunity for reflection on his role as a classical artist, remarkably intertwined with contemporary complexity.

Photo and words: Lorenzo Morandi

Jago has got serious talent and his works directly impact the viewer through their presence and power. He is a classical artist, crafting his pieces meticulously and basing his practice unequivocally on hands-on creation. Alone, surrounded by his work and immersed in his thoughts, yet virtually connected to people worldwide at every moment.

The solitude and concentration demanded by his art for extended periods contrast with his hyper-connectivity to his audience, the immediacy of his message, and his remarkable communicative abilities. In Jago, these aspects complement and mutually amplify each other.

Jago is intriguing precisely because of this duality. His unquestionable skill and technique notwithstanding, his integration into the current cultural scene is often a subject of controversy. Adored by the general public but frequently excluded from contemporary museum circuits, Jago seems to have found a path to individual recognition without the need for intermediaries. Regardless of critical judgments on his work, this aspect renders him one of the most fascinating personalities I have engaged with and photographed.
